Browning A5 12 Ga. Full Choke Blonde Wood MFG: 1967. Modern upland field guns are well represented by the Sweet Sixteen Upland. This design makes the most of the increase in 16 gauge ammunition by combining it with a light chassis and beautifully finished wood. Its weight of slightly more than 6 pounds won't slow you down as you travel the distances in pursuit of roosters. When your friend used the phrase "Sweet Sixteen" in the not-too-distant past, you knew he was referring to a 16 gauge Browning Auto-5. The Sweet Sixteen models gained a devoted following among hunters, perhaps due to the smooth handling of these weapons, their light weight, or even just the way the name "Sweet Sixteen" sounds when said. "The Gentleman's Gauge" is the range between 16 and 18. For many hunters, the ideal ammo for the ideal firearm is 16 gauge. A well-built 16 gauge is closer to a 20 gauge in weight, has shot payload more like to a 12 gauge, and has patterning that outperforms both of them. Like its most revered predecessor, the Browning A5 16 gauge is built on a smaller, lighter receiver for reduced weight and a sleek feel in your hands. To maximize the performance of this renowned gauge, it also takes advantage of Total Barrel Dynamics and the Invector-DS choke tube technology. The humpback receiver profile lengthens the viewing plane to provide you with the same benefit that the original Auto 5s were renowned for. With a short-recoil controlled action that is so dependable we back it with a 5 year/100,000 round guarantee, the Browning A5 Sweet Sixteen is well on its way to becoming a modern classic. Kinetic energy, to put it simply, is the energy of motion. With its potent, quickly operated Kinematic Drive System, the Browning A5 makes better use of kinetic energy. Utilizing recoil energy, Kinematic Drive creates the mechanical motion required to move the action. The business that pioneered the use of autoloading shotguns has now refined this tried-and-true idea. The simplicity of design for Kinematic Drive's consistent, dependable performance with a wide range of weights and under the harshest conditions of weather, temperature, moisture, and filth is its most appealing feature. This weapon is built to function in every situation. Because gases are discharged through the barrel and away from the action, operation is clean.

The Benelli M2 Field Rifled Slug Shotgun is the result of painstaking work at Benelli’s Research and Development Center and of Benelli’s extensive experience in precision engineering and technical know-how. The small number of components, an extremely simple operating principle, the innovativeness of the turning block bolt locking system and the cartridge feeding system (cut off), make the “Benelli” shotguns highly reliable and practical, easy to strip and upkeep to the extent that the shotguns can be considered the most modern, accurate, safe, fast and elegant shotguns available today. Benelli semi-automatic shotguns operate on the same basic principle of inertial operation with fixed barrel, utilizing the kinetic energy of gun recoil, which still today represents one of the most important and ingenious innovation of sporting weapon production. This system requires no outlet for gas operation nor barrel recoil, but operates by means of a spring freely interposed between locking head and bolt. As the gun recoils during firing, the breech bolt (inert) moves about 4 mm forward, thus compressing the spring. When this is fully compressed, it overcomes breech bolt inertia, thrusting it to the rear under residual pressure, permitting cartridge case extraction and reloading with the conventional system. Spring pressure is designed to delay the opening of the action, which occurs after the shot has left the barrel, and to compensate for the different pressures produced by cartridges of varying power, with no adjustment necessary. The fully automatic operation of this new shotgun eliminates the drawbacks of the barrel recoil system (barrel vibrations during firing needed to brake the system and regulate it when firing powerful ammunition etc.) and those of gas operated type (the need to clean gas outlets, loss of power due to acceleration of the shot charge and adverse effect on the longitudinal shape of the wad and possible malfunctions under adverse climatic conditions). The Benelli system is therefore modern and highly reliable. To this operating system has been added a revolving bolt head of simple and robust shape, which with only two locking lugs, closes the breech axially and perfectly, withstanding any pressure of the cartridge. The modern and revolutionary trigger action is carried out through a system of variable profile which allows the user to shoot precisely and without jerking in trigger pull. The pull action is carried out in a smoothly and controlled way, without trigger free pre-run or sudden relax after releasing the hammer, thus ensuring efficacy and safety of the whole system. Finally, the precise synchronization of the movement of the hammer double coupling teeth optimize the feeding system through a combined action with the cartridge drop lever and the stop notch. The cut-off feeding system operates by means of a special “cartridge drop lever”, the outer portion of which protrudes below the receiver and is thus easily reached by the trigger finger. Upon shooting, the hammer spring forces the cartridge drop lever upwards to disengage it from the carrier latch which, pulled by the carrier latch spring, rotates clockwise to allow a cartridge to exit from the magazine. As the cartridge falls into position on the carrier, it presses against the “cartridge drop lever” which rotates in the opposite direction to prevent a second cartridge from exiting. When the bolt is operated the carrier rises automatically to position the cartridge for introduction in the chamber. In the meantime, the hammer spring, which was compressed during cocking, has freed the cartridge drop lever to return to its rest position. In this way, the carrier latch holds the remaining cartridges in the magazine until the next shot is fired. The end of the cartridge drop lever which protrudes from the receiver is marked with a red point. When the red point is visible, the hammer is cocked and the gun is ready to fire; otherwise the hammer is not cocked. Thanks to this operation cartridges in the barrel chamber can be easily replaced manually. The Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon I Sporting offers all the functional features of Beretta's premium over-under competition shotguns at a particularly attractive price. It is built around the best-in-class 686 action, which is compact and low-profile while being extremely strong. The Optima-Bore, Optima-Choke barrels are light-weight and place the shotgun’s point of balance right at the hinge-pin, meaning lively feel in the hands and natural pointability. And with its select-walnut stock and tasteful scroll engraving, the Silver Pigeon I Sporting won’t fail to turn heads at the range, also thanks to its unmistakeable Beretta looks. Over-under actions must have a strong locking mechanism, because the stress of every shot causes the action to “want” to open. For this reason, most manufacturers place the locking lug(s) at the top of the receiver, making it strong but also taller and bulkier than it needs be. Thanks to its long experience, Beretta uses instead two conical locking lugs at mid-action, right between the barrels. This gives the 686 receiver vault-like locking strength while keeping the profile considerably lower. The advantage is that the eye of the shooter is a lot closer to the plane of his supporting hand: considerably better swing and hand-eye coordination, more targets shattered. Another advantage of the Silver Pigeon action is the fact that the locking lugs are conical. As the number of shots fired goes into the five digits, the receiver will still lock up positively: the conical lugs merely “self-adjust” by setting themselves slightly deeper into the barrel unit, without any compromise on strength. This means that the Silver Pigeon Sporting is a shotgun that will stand up to years of enjoyment and can be passed down from generation to generation. While not as elaborately decorated as Beretta's premium shotguns, the Silver Pigeon I Sporting has all the elegance that you can expect from a Beretta. The oil-finished stock sports a beautiful and crisp checkering pattern, and the schnabel fore-end adds to the classic flavor of this over-under. The scroll-engraved receiver is a functional work of art in itself, with its interesting geometry blending perfectly with the stock and contributing to the gun’s graceful lines. This is a shotgun that has all the elements of a treasured heirloom, without the price-tag to match. Beretta logo
The A400 Xplor Action is a semi-automatic shotgun that will be equally at home on an upland, duck or deer hunt as well as at the clay range. It incorporates all the advantages of the revolutionary A400 concept--low profile action, light weight, lightning-fast follow-up shots, low recoil, easy maintenance--and combines them with the classic looks of blue steel and walnut stock. But even here, Beretta has an eye towards innovation, offering updated lines and checkering, as well as a contrasting-color receiver. Available in 12 and 20 gauge, the A400 Xplor Action defines performance and versatility in a semiauto. The A400 is a gas-operated action that was built for speed, reliability and versatility. Featuring the Blink technology, it is capable of firing 4 shells in less than 1 second, giving you the fastest follow-up shots of any shotgun on the market. Also, with this shotgun you can safely fire lead and steel shot, as well as chamber the best shell for the job regardless of length (2 ¾” to 3”) or power (mild for target to hard-hitting for hunting). Last but not least, the A400 action is light and trim, making this shotgun’s balance, swing and pointability an absolute best in its class. While only weighing 6.7 lbs max (12-ga), the A400 Xplor Action features multiple recoil-reducers that greatly diminish the impact of each shot on your shoulder (by as much as 70%). Inside the stock, there are hydraulic shock-absorbers that--much like in a modern luxury car--absorb the impact of any sudden bump, giving your shoulder a “smooth ride.” Also, the buttpad’s Micro-Core technology adds extra softness between you and any recoil that is left, while still allowing the shotgun to slide up effortlessly to your shoulder without the gummy friction of other pads. With its bronze-colored receiver, its classic Beretta blue barrel and its select walnut stock, the A400 Xplor Action is an elegant piece of gear that will figure very nicely even next to a premium over-under. The checkering is fine, giving you secure purchase while pointing and shooting, and on the fore-end it features the Beretta Trident logo for an updated look. Keeping this shotgun as good as new after a long day on the field or at the range is quick and easy: you can field-strip the A400 Xplor without any tools, and it comes apart in only five components that are a snap to reassemble. All these features make the A400 Xplor Action the best and most versatile wood-blue semiauto shotgun for a variety of hunting and sporting purposes.
