AR-15 pistol is a classification that exists due to some silly American gun laws and definitions. An AR pistol cannot have a stock, but can have a bare and exposed buffer tube. Another no-no is a vertical grip, but an angled grip like the Magpul AFG is legal. Now of course nobody wants to run afoul of the Federal Government, so it’s imperative that you understand what makes an SBR an SBR, and what makes AR pistols legal. It may appear to be complicated and obfuscated but the defining characteristics are pretty straight forward if you know what you’re looking for. AR-15 pistols can have barrels as short as you want them to. Personally, I own an AR-15 pistol with a 7.5-inch barrel and, while it is ridiculous, it’s a lot of fun. Over the last few years, the popularity of AR-15 pistols has grown significantly. This growth is mostly tied to the advent of stabilizing braces. Stabilizing braces turned a gaudy, heavy, and awkward gun into a stable, comfortable-to-shoot weapon. Why Would I Want One? We won’t dive too deep into the NFA, but the section that concerns this article is the law that rifles must have 16-inch barrels, or else they are regulated under the NFA. So, if you wanted an AR-15 with a 7.5-inch barrel, you’d have to pay a tax stamp, ask for permission, and wait for 3 to 6 months for approval. Once approved you could then own an SBR. Or you could just buy an AR pistol and skip all that. There are a lot of other reasons you might want an AR pistol, besides just the tax stamp.
This HFC pistol looks unique compared to various handgun designs, and you may wonder about its genuine firearm counterpart. Don’t be shocked. This airsoft pistol is an entirely original design from HFC, if inspired by the K&H USP and several other models. It’s a reliable sidearm you can rely on if your rifle’s magazine is empty. The gold aluminum slide is mounted onto a polymer frame, allowing the pistol to be light and durable. For easier cocking, the slide has two rows of serrations on the left and right sides. The safety and slide release are both located under the slide, near the rear, though they’re not ambidextrous. By default, this pistol doesn’t have any accessories, but you can attach a flashlight or laser to the Picatinny rail. It accepts most common alternatives, being a standard pistol rail. A secure grip is necessary for accuracy, and HFC designed this non-slip polymer pistol grip. It’s comfortable, whether you’re wearing a glove or not. The textures and ridges are especially effective in damp environments. Specifications: 280 FPS with 0.20g BBs 24 rounds in the magazine Adjustable hop-up Non-slip pistol grip Gas blowback
American Tactical Imports (ATI) showed off their AR-15 shotgun chambered in .410 gauge a few years back, well they’re finally coming out. I was walking through ATI’s booth to go fondle their MP-40 replica chambered in 9mm when I stumbled on the Omni Hybrid .410 shotgun. The new shotgun uses ATI’s OMNI Hybrid Mil-Spec, multi-caliber, polymer and metal lower receiver. The lower also uses a standard AR-15 6 position stock. The upper has a 2.5? chamber and an 18.5? barrel, 13? free float rail with Key MoD slots and a full length Picatinny rail up top. The Omni Hybrid .410 will include a 5 round magazine but a 15 round mag will also be available. The mags also have round count holes along the side. ATI claims their new Omni Hybrid .410 is compatible with most bird shot, buck shot and slugs on the market. I got to play around with it a bit and it’s pretty light, they didn’t have an exact weight but according to their prototype from a few years back they claimed it was only 6.5lbs.
